What is this pike? Orange pike? ;)

That's not a pike cichlid at all. It's a snakehead (Channa sp.) I'll let someone that knows more about snakeheads ID it.

oooo you are in for a suprise!!!!!! They can get 2 ft long and are very aggresssive! I believe it is Channa micropeltes.

Exactly what it is. Red Line Snake Head, Giant Snakehead, you choose. I owned two a while ago. Those are beasts. 2 feet is not a big Micro, they will clear 3 feet no problem with the right conditions. These get huge and so does there appetite, aggression and teeth:nilly:

I wish I could have snakeheads. I could only really give a dwarf a good home but they are cool.

I would get ride of all my fish to be able to keep a snake head again, there really is nothing like it IMO. Don't get me wrong, I love my pikes and Jags, but Snake Heads hunt like nothing else in Fresh Water in my experience.

CHINATOWN!!!!!!

They don't hunt. They just gulp :) And 2 feet is still a baby.

It is a Channa (I think it is now Ophiocephalus) micropeltes, adult size of 3 feet or a little more. I have had them while they were legal, and they are awesome fish!

One thing though - This is ONE fish you can NOT "put in a small tank while it's a baby, for a few months" because this guy will reach 1 1/2 feet within a year's time. You just need to HAVE a big tank ready and waiting.

That said, go for it, if you can house it, and they eat a lot - fish.

It's a young snakehead, I had two that were 24inches. They banned them in my state cause they got into the waterways. sigh.
