as many vieja posses the same traits it is hard to say if it is 100% synspillum
colour suggests synspillum (melanurus) but it could be a hybrid somewhere along the line

just give him some more growth, by 4" you will be able to tell for sure, he can still change hugely

Mate i hate to be so bloody lunt, but why not focus on being able to keep those fish properly in a tank that isnt 29 gal and upgrade, a vieja needs at least 75 gal to itself
