ID this fish please

Hey everyone. Just got back from Petco and I picked up this little guy for free in the plant/adoption tank. The lady said it was South American. Can someone please give me an ID on this fish and some basic knowledge? Every response is much appreciated.

That's a sunfish, looks like a green sunfish.

Wait...so is it a Green Sunfish or Green Terror?
Since it's coldwater...can I keep it in a 20 gallon goldfish tank?

I would say "ewurm" was jokeing, it is a Green Sunfish.
You could keep it in a 20 gal fish tank, eventualy you might need a bigger tank.
I have kept them in 30 long tanks & they seemed very happy.

What would the temperature range from if I kept this guy in a 20gal?

Just keep it at room temp.
You do not need a heater for green sunfish.
