Hey everyone saw this fish at a fancy LFS in a tank with Steinies, Heckeli and jurapari. not a damn clue what it is, but I know its not any of those fish because they were all in the tank, and looked exactly as they always do. this guy looks a little different in the photos cause 1. I have flash, and 2. its stressed cause its new.
the fish normally is SOLID yellow in colour, with a few flashes of greeny blue.

I really hoped it was a Geophagus Brasiliensis, but I noticed it was bright yellow, had next to no sparkle on its body and no red in the fins. the fish is aroun 3"-4" big. Either its a varient of Brasiliensis or a closely related species but I wanted to get your guys perspective.
If it is G. Brasiliensis, i´ve never actually seen a non adult in person, so it may be totally normal to you guys but thansk anyway :D

I think its still too young to tell if its a female, its pretty stressed, but it does look that way with the mark under the eye.
anyway heres a pic of my old brasiliensis and neither of them had yellow on them anywhere, the male and female were the same colours just one was bigger

On seriously fishy it says
"Wild specimens exhibits significant dissimilarities in body colour and patterning depending on locality with basic colouration being dominated by varying shades of blue, green or yellow, for example. Some populations also exhibit differences in body shape depending on the type of environment they inhabit e.g. specimens from fast-flowing rivers and tributaries are more elongate than those from sluggish or stagnant waters. It's possible that the species as currently recognised may turn out to represent a group of closely-related species should additional studies be conducted."

Could it be from a particular local variant? kind of like how the Bahia red is.

thank god I´m not the only one seeing Brasiliensis in this fish. I do think its too young to sex but yeah, i brought it because someone on here recently got a pair, and it reminded me of my old pair. saw this guy today and noticed how weird it was to see a brasiliensis with no sparkles, and a yellow body. so I got it...

At 3-4" I would also say female, but I'm leaning more towards G. iporangensis, not G. brasiliensis. I've kept both, and they are often confused, especially at smaller sizes.

Note the more "yellow" coloration in the female shown in the following vid.

RD do you have any pics of your old ones? I can grab some new pics for today hes settled in a lot more.

Sorry, no I don't have any photos of the ones that I had, but there should be plenty that you can find online.

I can´t actually find any, But from what I found a lot of Brasiliensis are confused with these, and Brasiliesnsis tend to get huge whereas G. iporangensis tend to get quite small around 4". Most of the pictures I found or videos were people saying that it was actually a Brasiliensis. I think maybe its a Brasiliensis thats a a particular collection point and looks like G. iporangensis.

Either way we will tell wether the fish grows or not, and as it colours up. Looking at some pictures of G. iporangensis I am pretty sure I have Brasiliensis cause they have diffferent faces.

here is some updated pics, they dont normally look like this, to human eyes the fish is solid yellow. unless you guys have built in flash.
