When young, your everyday midas can look like that. Could be either rd or midas... or more likely the usual LFS mutt.
 
yeah amphilophus can be awefull tricky when young
 
i was thinkin mayan...but now that i look at it could be juvie midas/red devil...i really dun know tho!
 
I think Red Devil or I have the wrong fry in my tank look at the fry I bought just a week ago Its in my other fish pic.s they told me it was a RD but I'm confused because he's not yellow he's gray also just have to wait and see at this point?
 
Thats strange they diddn't know what one it was and grabbed you a RD instead of a green terror you should show the place you bought it my two new fry I got a green terror and a Red Devil I hope they grow well together but I do have pic. s of both in my album ck it out Maybe you could get the one you wanted free and keep the RD?
 
They are fun to watch morph. I have 3 young midas right now. 2 still look like yours but the other has been changing over the past 2-3 weeks and now is almost completely white.
 
I would say some sort of Amphilophus hybrid. Those red eyes are quite strange. It definitely has the overall look of Amphilophus though.

looks like a Juvi RD/midas

they are known for drastic changes in colors, markings, etc-

as they grow from juvi's to adults, so your guy will lose his barring.
