Welcome to MFK!!!

They're an Ambassidae. The lighting makes their color deceptive but, they're possibly Ambassis gymnocephalus. I might be able to determine the species a little better when I get home from work. I don't have any reference books at the office.

almost postive its a Chanda ranga or Indian Glassfish, HABITAT: primarily estuarine waters of Burma and Thailand, despite the name Indian. REMARKS: a seperate species tank would suite this fish well.

this is not my own info but cme sfrom a book i have calledAquarium Fish in the eyewitness handbooks series written by Dick Mills

Hope that helps

I don't think they're C. ranga since the species only grows to 3". I can't tell if there's any yellow to red coloration in the pelvic fins. If there is, the fish may be Parambassis gulliveri. which looks like C. ranga but grows to 8".

sorry for the poor pictures, i took it at a LFS, did a search on C. ranga, it doesnt look like it,as the lower body isnt transparent, there is no red or yellow colouration, just plain silver. its around 3-inch long, do you have a adult picture of C.ranga? does the adult form lose the transparent lower body?Parambassis gulliveri have a high back which the fish had a uniform curve on his back in the pictures. :screwy:

Well you guys are definitely in the right family.

From the convex forehead and protruding lower lip it could be a Parambassis macrolepis.

thanks guys for narrowing the search.
