ID this fish

100% Brown puffer, turgidus.
The snout is short (less than 2.5 diameters of the eye) and his target/eye spot is similar in size to his other spots. He is also about half his adult size, not quite a juvi-not yet an adult.
He is a beautiful specimen, healthy. Would love to get my hands on him!

Well I knew it wasn't a fahaka like it was marked as... so I thought I should find out what it is before I buy it and put it in its own 120g tank

He looks like a lovely puffer, but honestly you might not see him much in a 120.
You would be surprised how little pet stores know about puffers. I am frequently told things like, "there are no freshwater puffers", "puffers are community fish", "puffers like feeder fish"....all BS. They have no clue so i think they just make things up!

We can dream.....nice cheap puffer filled dreams.
To be fair..it does depend on the puffer. I've had several which lived happily for several years without eating it's tankmates. including a fahaka which happily roomed with a mbu for a couple weeks while we set up a new tank..would do it better now since we have far more knowledge about puffers but they were 2 of the most laid back fish I have ever kept.
The internet is a great thing for validating opinions and simplifying identification in the 1990s we had unseen puffers coming to us from notable (responsible) fish retailers with no info, we still find bad info coming from importers... our "oldest" red tail red eyed puffer was sold to us from a high brackish tank with orange chromids as directed by the importer.... ignorance in the true sense.... still doing well a year one in the "traditional" water environment...
