Can't go wrong with either Eheim and Fluval, they are some of the best filters, but I find Fluval to be quite pricey.

I've used the RENA Filstar series, which I found to be quite good. Only had one RENA XP2 fail on me, water level in the filter kept dropping below the motor. Bought it second hand, so maybe that might have had something to do with it?

Aquatop UV canisters do a pretty good job. Have 2 CF500s in storage at the moment, planning to use them for my 120 gal.

Guess what it comes down to is how much you're willing to spend and the type of filter media your planning on using. Quick tip, using a filter bag filled with polyfoam works wonders for keeping your water clear of debris. It's very easy to maintain, it's cheap, and saves you money spending on some brand name media inserts.
