Yeah, I thought about the mostly black adipose too.

I have them in separate tanks because I didn't want one to murder the other. They were in a 20g tank at the shop. 3 of them pretty close together. He had just got them in the day before.

I paid $50 a piece. This is the same shop that sold me a 13" ST for $150 though...

Did more picture research... The red in the tail says tat to me... The eyes are between what I've seen for each. The adipose, even though mostly black still says armatus, but the armatus seems to pop the color a little more. There is color though, which I haven't seen in any tat pictures.

These fish were imported from Vietnam.

:confused::confused:

I find that rather strange.....

Well you'll know for sure in a few months..... Growthrate is not a debatable subject like all other attributes.

Find a pic of an 8 inch Armatus to compare to..... Might make it easier.

I would have to agree with Tat.. Very very nice one you picked up!!!!

So the fish get exported from South America to Vietnam then back over here? :confused: Too bad they don't get frequent flyer miles.... LOL

Here's an old pic that kinda shows what I'm talking about with the fin size and color of the adipose....

Forgot to add.... Armatus at 8 inches will have the white outline on the tail that is VERY hard to miss.

Don't know if you are hoping for them to be Armatus or not, But they are VERY nice fish whatever they turn out to be. I can tell you it is MUCH easier and realistic to most hobbyists to house a Tat, and you're going to have better luck with tankmates if it/they do turn out to be Tatauaia.
