ID this peacock???

Bought this cichlid out of curiousity from petsmart, it was in a tank full of auratus cichlids that were for sale, the employee did not know what it was, so I got it for the same sale price.

It looks to me like some sort of peacock. I have not been in that particular store in a long time so I don't know what they usually stock.

the cichlid is about 1.5 inches long, is mostly silver in color with a faint vertical striping pattern. there is also a slight highlight of iridescent greenish/yellowish color on the tip of the dorsal fin.


If anyone can help me ID this guy I'd greatly appreciate

It is hard to tell at this size, but the spots make me think of a hap as does the line on the eye.

I agree it is tough to say at this size but that top dorsal fin looks like an Aulonocara Sp Chitande Type North. I am guessing this is a juvie male but can be a very colorful female too. Look at the profile of these and compare it to your fish.

thanks for the reply, that helps a lot. I think that this may be a ruby red peacock. I remember I have seen some in that store a long time ago, chances are they are still using the same vendor for their stocklist. thank you all.
