not a sultan for sure, they have less spots and have white tips

It looks like a Hypo or a Gibby. A clearer shot can confirm that. But it's definitely not a Bristlenose.

ok those were 2 of the ones i was thinking about.

the spotting is was what throws me off but the fins were right on for Hypostomus Punctatus. i guess as he ages he'll start to resemble them more.

im not dissappointed though, i have 2 other big (14-15") "commons" of different species. they are hypostomus plecostomus though i believe. there are so many that look so alike i find it hard to tell.
