senegalus is actually pretty small...about 10"-12" max in captivity.

P. endli. endli. will typically get to 18"-24" in captivity. which end of the spectrum depends on the genes, food, fish's appetite, environment etc, as well as it'll take some time.

even for a congicus, its growth and eventual size depend on the same factors as well. if everything is good, you can expect 24"-30", but it'll take a while...

Thanks alot for the info. Any ideas how to differentiate though?

BTW, got this pic of senegalus of the web sometime ago ... looks pretty big

the senegalus in your link is in all likelihood between 10"-12" in length at most. Its big belly is a result of a serious illness.

P. endli endli generally has much darker and wider stripes. Their stripes are also more irregular and zigzaggy. However there are CB endli with narrow or horizontal stripes which you don't typically see in wild caught fish.

P. endli congicus typically has fainter, narrower and neater stripes. But there are also some specimens with darker and slightly wider stripes than normal. It typically has a higher number of stripes (e.g. 7-9) than endli.

congicus has on average 13-14 dorsal finlets. endli about 12-13. But they really can overlap, so it's not very diagnostic.

endli endli typically has a wider and flatter head than congicus.

thanks for the info. helps alot.

I thought that the pic of senegalus can not be healthy. I mean by bichir stuff itself, but i really could not imagine him eating until like that (ouch)

Nice Endli

hehehe thanks ^^ it is gaining length mostly but not yet girth. my little survivor in the big tank. quite inactive unless hungry. not particularly social either (i.e. doesn't interact with people).

Can they be trained to be handfed?

I like when he swims - looks like a butterfly ... unfortunately he does not swim too much

nice how long is it??

Never quite measured it ... the tank is 3' wide so i would say more than 12" but not sure exactly though

For better scale comparison. the tank is 3' wide

errr, so this means that the bichir is 1.5' now ... close to its max potential for endli endli bichir - hopefully will grow so more
