If I recall correctly that was exactly the situation that prompted the quote. A certain member who will go unnamed wants to keep all kinds of enormous fish, including many open water schoolers who need way more space than he is capable of providing, and refuses to listen when others try to steer him toward more suitable species.

Ok, i understand now, and have always been a strong proponenet of the "Think First, Take Home Next" Rule. By that i mean no matter what the circumstance, I just caught a 3 inch Green Sunfish, and only have a 10 gal tank at home and no intention or ability to upgrade, Look at it enjoy it for awhile right where you stand, and release it, And NO do not take it home put it in that tank, then in 6 months when it can no longer turn around, Take it back and let it go. Or that beautiful Golden Trout, that can be had with a simple " Hey Man..Ship me one" When i know full well the requirement of that fish, none of which i have or can get. If someone could only convince these folks it would save a lot of grief in these forums.

Yeah what Noto said. I was try to change this member his mind about try out other species thats suitable to live his tanks whole life. Too bad he's stubborn and will keep do it till they got too big then throw out these fish into his pond as sportfish.

I find its funny when you mention you have your morals straight...what straight?

Alright, I said last night that I would explain why the dollar sunfish is what it is and not some of the other fish suggested so here it is.

The first suggestion was Pumpkinseed. Without getting into too much detail lets just point out the key difference between the two, the lack of a spot on the ear flap, even in B&W you still would have been able to see a spot. Dollars do not have this spot.

Another fish suggest was the orangespotted sunfish. The OSS has a much wider white margin on the ear flap than the dollar, also notice that the dollar has darker sides than an OSS would.

I think the only other fish suggeted was the longear sunfish. Dollars and longears look extreamly similar and were once classified as the same species. The differences are there but unless you have the fish in hand are difficult to see. In order to tell them apart look at the cheek scales as a dollar will have three or four rows and a longear five or six, also a dollar will have 13-14 pectoral rays as opposed to the 10-12 in the longear. In the case of IDing by picture it pays to look at the ear flap, in dollars it is in a more upturned position than in longears. Still, those that concluded that this was a longear deserve some credit as well.

Arnt you just a vault of useless knowledge?:screwy:

I'd love to play "name that sunfish" but I'm afaid I only look at em long enough to pull em off my hook and smack em off the bow of my boat as they skip acrossed the water (got 6 skips outta one, thats the record so far). Gulls seem to love em after they have their heads bashed and float on top the water for a while too:ROFL:. I like to call that my lil contribution to bird life.

man, you really have a lot of growing up left to do. How old are you, 12? If you have a problem with sandtiger, take it out somewhere else, not on the public forum. are you honestly looking for all his posts he has ever written to try to make him look bad? good luck with that.

like i said, sandtiger is way more experienced in fishkeeping than you will ever be and thats a fact you need to accept.

also, i assume you are trying to make him mad by saying that you abuse sunfish. that probably makes him laugh at how immature and ignorant you are.

one last thing, QUIT BRINGING UP DEAD THREADS :banhim:

This forum needs a Mod.

Lmao, oh what you want to be moderator here too like you are at Oscarfish? Would you like to see me banned? Would that put another feather in your hat? Well just for the record, I was never banned from Oscarfish...I told you ages ago that that would never happen...it was impossible. I have sat and watched you screw with many people...as a matter of facty...I'll give you a bit of proof...you were in there yoday yappin off...lemme c&p your crap from oscarfish....

The Penguin, sitting almost directly behind Obama, looks like he is up to no good. I love the zoom on that, I'm determined to find someone picking their nose or doing something else unsavory.

EDIT: I moved this thread to the Ideology Zone, seemed more fitting.

I believe that was today...or yesterday...
anyway, as you can see...banning me from your little forum didnt work, LMAO
