ID this Sunfish

It appeared to be a bluegill but this pictures aint enough clear to see the ID traits of this sunfish. Where the new home for this sunfish?
You can't return that fish to a pond once it's been in your tank, that's a no no. If you're not gonna keep it, you're better off freezing/killing it.
Strange one, it doesnt look like a green/B.gill. The head looks more to be like a crappie but the colors are not like a crappie. But then again the color pattern on his gills are like a green. & his top fins are weird. :O Strange hybrid?

Since it has come into contact with tropical fish, returning it to the pond could introduce parasites or diseases that could potentially devastated the local ecosystem. On top of that, in most places it is illegal to release a fish back into the wild after keeping it in captivity.
Also, fish don't have feelings, so it doesn't miss its old pond.
It looks like a greengill to me.
You can legally re-release it into a private pond as long as the owners don't mind and the pond is not connected or doesn't drain into any local waterways (such as creeks or rivers).
Private pond would be considered an isolated body of water, manmade, that is on private property and not owned by the local government or state.
Even a naturally occuring isolated pond might be considered legally ok to release into, but I wouldn't want to potentially harm the natural ecosystem.
