Oh yeah, she's got a big blotch on the plastron. As I said, it's faded, but it's definitely there. You've got yourself a female Midland Painted, Chrysemys picta marginata.

Definitely midland, OP is in Indiana (only midlands in IN). Pattern doesn't match Eastern or Western.

Algae itself won't bother the turtle, but these guys are big on basking so if there is algae on the shell it means they aren't basking which causes lots of problems (algae and fungus grow on the shell, inadequate lighting which leads to Vit D3 deficiency, which can cause soft shell/metabolic bone disease). Not to mention that if the basking area wasn't proper most likely other aspects of care are not either.

ok i am still working on a tank i have a 100 gallon that i am trying to get a basking spot for and filter he is currently in a 55gallon with no basking spot because i just got him a few days ago and i wasnt really ready for one so i am in the proces of working on a tank and soon a pond :)

Well put a brick or cinderblock in the tank, anything to let her get out of the water. A few days without basking can lead to fungus as stated above and other sickness included.

Well the problem with that is that its hard to get on. Its just like swimming in a pool and trying to get on one of those floating chairs.

Unless you're talking about the kind that are stuck to the side of the tank.

If the wood works for the turtle it is ideal (perfectly natural for them to haul out on wood).

What are you feeding it?
What lighting are you going to get?
