ID this wolf fish

Got him from a buddy who ordered it for me.. It was labeled as an argentina wolf fish... This guy is bulky from the body.. Unlike any other mala ive seen.. Looks as if its pregnant and he only eats 4-5 massivore pellets a week ... So i dont kno where hes gaining the weight from

mine has that too and it only eats like 1 shrimp a day at best. My bet is its possible we have females, from what ive read and been told female malas are bulkier. That or its a new species lol

Interesting, I ask because he looks very similar to a mala I got rid of recently that was sold to me as hoplias lacerde... Here's a couple pics, I'm gonna look on my camera when I get home, but this gosh looks extremely similar to the one I moved out of my collection.

It quite interesting. I think the arginteanan (terrible spelling) malas and the lacerdaes have a sleeker and pointier head shape than the regular malas. Malas have a fatter and blunter head shape. Both species do have the same marking though.
