Came accross these pics on the web and I can't seem to pin these guys down. Apteronotidae family, I'm thinking maybe Parapteronotus hasemani or Apteronotus leptorhynchus. Can anyone help me out here?

Ok, I found a pic and I'm sure it's not leptorhynchus. I also found a pic of Compsaraia sp. and it looks like a solid match.
 
holy ****!!!!!! WOW!!!!:eek: i hope that is how the species is naturally, cause i might work at a lfs in a couple weeks. I am going to snag some deals on some tanks, then get that

Yeah, let me know if you find one outside of south america, I'll be first in line. I'm pretty sure I've got the ID now:

Compsaraia compsa first described by Mago-Leccia in 1994 from the Rio Meta and Rio Cusiana.

I'd assume you could buy one if you had the money, although I've never seen one for sale. Pretty sure you'd have to have it imported specifically, so it'd cost a pretty penny.
 
it looks so prehistoric. if you find anything out about their sales status or pricing be sure to post it.
 
sorry man, can't find the info on the species. there is alot talking about getting one. Can anyone ballpark the price range? Max Size?
