there are too many of these threads, so in future just post all pics of gars you want ID'd here!!:)

Could I get an ID for these guys? I know the pictures suck, so they may be of limited use, but I think the fish in the bottom pic in the focus of the picture is the best one to look at. At first, I figured they weren't gar, but the tails look gar to me. Yes, I am a NOOB!

Nice fish.:)
thanks, but you will need to tell that to the LFS  I didn't buy them, just wondering what they were. They probably had 100 for 11.99 each. I doubt I will get one.

pretty sure those are gar...used to catch them in the lake at like 4 and 5 inchesand raise them...not sure whay kind though, i know our lake had many longnise and spotted gar in it. but yea im pretty sure those are gar

try and get a better pic of their jaws but i'd say florida/spotted gar from these pics

thanks, I will probably go back in a week or so and try to get better pix. They have tons, so I doubt they will be gone by the time I get back.

Typical Asian import Platyrhincus (Oculatus?) 99.5% of these young off season fish are the same thing.... Dead give aways are 1. they will have a stupid made up common name and 2. the dark dorsal stripe will really only be present distinctly in these fish. If you look at the ventral fins they are also marked which will seperate these out from Shortnosed.. Longnosed look nothing like these fish..

There are only four species in Lepisosteus, it's really not as hard as it looks to ID them...

yeah, they definitely had a crazy made-up name. i can't recall what it was right now.
