I went down to my lfs today and saw this 6" ca/sa cichlid i liked so i picked it up for 10$. The guy didnt know what species it was but he thought Amphilophus Alfari. This guy has long extended fins so it has to be male. I thought Umbee was closer.
Could you ID it for me.

Looks like Amphilophus alfari to me. Rhytisma has more black blotches near the dorsal and more blue facial markings and bussingi has black dots on the sides.

yeah definitely an amphilophus/astatheros...not a thorichthys...also not robertsoni....after looking over pics on www.cichlidae.com I'd say it's probably between alfari, calobrensis or longimanus.
