I will wait til he gets bigger and more colourful. I need more experts now though Jason and Spaz are. Modest man, Cichlidinsomaniac, Ruck Fules........

Wofogon: Its 1000000% NOT A GREEN TERROR OR A FIREMOUTH. Any idiot that has kept both species knows that.

That's a full grown Amphilophus alfari. You might get another 1"-2". I've never had alfari get past about 7"-8".

You know, there are 2 different ways to correct someone when they make a mistake...one is to make them feel 2" tall and like a total moron. The other is to perhaps show a pic of a GT and FM in comparison to your fish and politely explain the differences. Which way would you prefer to be corrected?

Did you know everything when you bought your first cichlid? Did you do anything worthy of being called an idiot? I know I did but fortunately people were polite enough to correct me in a much better way, hence my love of cichlids grew even further and I continued to post online and learn what I've learned.

I'm just sayin... ;)

I agree with you, but i stay away from answering questions that i'm clueless about.

but for someone who has only seen species that are very common like GT, FM, JD etc may mistake this fish for one...they may not think of themselves as being clueless.

point being is at least this person is here trying to participate. if he or she is fairly new then so be it...no need to make fun of him and call him names for trying to participate. I couldn't tell you how many times I've seen a thread asking if a particular fish were a JD or GT. Now, as long as I"ve been keeping cichlids I don't see how in anyone could mistake the 2. Hell, same thing with JD and Texas...no matter how stressed the fish is or how small I can tell the difference between a JD and Texas. But about a decade ago I couldn't.

we learn from our mistakes. well, hopefully anyway. lol

Jason is right, and i appollogize to Wofogon. I will have to use this as an excuse as a rough Man Utd fan, Real bought Ronaldo.
