Looking for a ID on this cichlid, not mine just very curious...
Texas, Escondido... hybrid???

I'm not normally one to do this but it looks like a hybrid to me. I would guess a FH/Texas cross. I have a small one hopefully it ends up looking similar to that beast.

First of all, an Escondido IS a Texas.

I think that this fish is a GORGEOUS carpinte (Blue Spotted Texas)

I think what he means is carpintes and a cyanogutattum cross. It very well could be. Armac has one he breed himself! Let me dig up pic!!

Kory
Exactly what I failed to clearly get across...

could be...looks an awful lot like armacs fish. Never seen a carpinte look even remotely close to the fish pictured. Would be wild if it was though.

Many make a distinction between H. cyanoguttatus aka Texas and H.carpintis aka Escondido.
The common names Blue/Pearl Spot cichlid are interchangable due to the variation ib spot coloring in both species.

I read a great thread on these two fish awhile back on here, Mojo and someone else (?) of pretty impeccable reliability were discussing differences and field collecting... Two closely related but wholly separate species.

Beautiful fish! Looks like a tex hybrid to me (though don't ask me which of the two species) - for two reasons. One, I've never seen a tex look that beefy and get that kind of a nuchal hump on it, and two, you can see faint barring on it, which wouldn't come from a tex. Love him, he's absolutely stunning.

yeah carpintis
