Okay, so I wanted something a little larger for a 55 gallon rather than sticking with Mbuna. Here's my idea...

2 Nics
1 Convict

Would this work in a 55? It was recommended on another forum I was reading and I really like the look of the Nics!

Thanks!

Oh and one more thing I forgot... what's an aro? Somebody here suggested it and I have no idea what to look for.

2 nics and a convict should work just fine. An 'aro' is an arowana and can grow between 2 and 3 feet, requires a minimum tank size of around 210 gallons.

but for your 55g im sure you can add more if you would like, perhaps some bottoms feeders and a top level shoaling fish, like tiger barbs.

Thanks! I finally figured out what an "aro" was and realized the person was joking.

I thought about adding a firemouth to the mix, but the tiger barbs seem like a great idea, in addition to a pleco.

So now:
2x Nics
1x Convict or Firemouth (maybe both?)
2-3x Tiger Barbs

I think that would be a max.. and I'd add a power head just for some extra circulation. My Filstar XP2 is great but why not be safe?

2x Nics
1x Convict or Firemouth (maybe both?)
2-3x Tiger Barbs

^this sound good.

I'd rather go
1- nic
1- con
1- fm
and a group of tiger barbs...I feel a possible pair of the cichlids can cause unecessary trouble. If you want to breed the nics, just go with the nic pair and dithers

So I have a female Convict and a Firemouth with 5 Tiger barbs. Anyone know where I can get a nic?

Thanks! I'd like to shop locally if possible (meaning Michigan) rather than order.

Hopefully I can get some decent pics of my 2 now. They're about 2" currently. And the Tiger Barbs are just a bunch of goons. They love my bubble wand.
