idea for some cheap lighing from hope D...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the tank is 8feet long and 36 front to back. led is way cool but it looks confusing to set up. and there is no worry about not enough room above the tank. its going to be threw the wall so the back side doesn't matter if i have a nice looking canopy on it or not. i have about 3 feet from the top of the tank to the ceiling

In that case i'd get regular 4' or 8' shop lights and hang them over the tank.

What about those high output fluorescents? VHO or something like that...

Is there a reason not to use these? I don't know the costs of the ballasts vs T8's but it can't be that bad. What about pricing on the bulbs? Hours? colors< etc. Anyone have any useful links?

It would seam that replacing the existing shop light set up with the same amount of VHO bulbs might be a reasonable upgrade? maybe I'm way out there...

so about the led panel.. i can get them off ebay? and how many would i need for my tank to be bright? also how hard are they to wire up? i have always liked the idea of it just thought they were kinda a pain

go on ebay search 225 led grow light
scroll and find white ones, they are 1ft x 1ft they have 1 power cord per panel... if you have a 6ft tank get 5 panels place them on top of your tank side by side, get a surge protector and plug them all in and now you have a switch to turn them on and off ....

so i have an 8foot tank and its 29inches tall will they still be strong enough light to get that deep? there is no set up for them is there? just plug it in. i thought you have to wire a circuit for each tiny light

the panels are plug and play, my tank is 24in tall and there is more than enough light, i've suspended them 8in off the top of the tank and there is still alot of light on the bottom of the tank. each panel has 225led pre-wired, no switches... you plug it in and they turn on, you unplug and they turn off...
