So what I have come up with is when you have more watts of light the more algae will grow. So I have made a custom light fixture about 6 months ago for a planted tank that i don't have anymore. It can have a total of 100 watt output of light but all i need to do is to change the light bulbs. so if i put 26 watts of light in the tank instead of 12 watts I could get more algae in the tank to feed the pleco's. They are in a 20 gallon long tank

terrible idea. plecos rarely rely on algae to keep them alive.

interesting idea.. but its best suited for a planted tank... Plecos really dont just eat algae....

Maybe commons.. but not exotics...

you would be running extra wattage for nothing..... why not just get some veggies for the plecos so they grow big and are healthy and plus its probably cheaper

to grow algae its also length of time.. but you can't guarantee that you will get something they can eat.

I grew algae in my tank, not on purpose, but by overfeeding and too much light.
This is how my tank looked:

now that took several months of growing.
Until i put in the Hypostomus in the tank.
Within 2 days all my tank decoration looked like this:

so i think it's better to get them some zuchinni, instead of wasting time and money for a little algae.:naughty:

i also feed them algae pellets and what ever flake food i am using that day. I cant get them to eat zucchini at all I have put it is my tank and it just rots away. should i try organic zucchini???

Organic is not going to have any pestisides of ferts. on it you have to worry about.

I would just wash it well before adding to a tank, whether organic or not.

My plecos (even the carnivorous L-264) prefer boiled soft zuchinni over raw. Try boiling your zuchinni first and then put it in the tank. As an added benefit, the whole thing sinks so you don't have to deal with a clip or weight. The only bad thing is my plecos don't seem to care for the middle seed parts (so either remove these parts with a water change the next day or remove this part before you put it in the tank).
