This may not make sense because usually target or dither fish are expendable. I will soon be moving inhabitants of my 150 to my new 180.. It will be two widebar dats, a spotted gar, two motoro rays.. and my cobra pike when it gets here. I am looking for something with a little more color than silver dollars. I am thinking about red hooks but want to take it possibly a step further. Anyone have any mind blowing ideas?

black bar silvers...;) Cichlids don't make good dithers cuz they can return the aggression, gouramis are two slow...most tetras get eaten, hmm. Silvers are you best bet bro....they are deep bodied...which is what you want with those fish. Try gettin all the strains, spice it up. Black bar, red spot, red hood, and original. ;)

Yea I definately wouldn't use any cichlid as a dither... The Cobra Pike is definately no dither.

Yo peanut I think you had the same problem...... What's up with Pay Pal now. I have used it a few times in the past and the money has always gone through within minutes. Now I sent money last Friday and it still is waiting to clear. Whats up with that? Is this a new form of security?

I guess...its HELLA ANNOYIN lemme tell yaz! LoL!! DROVE ME CRAZY!! I've had to wait a week to get my 'cobras' after I paid. LoL...Rapps is kewl about it though, if you've bought from him more than once he'll just take your word on it and ship them as soon as he sees you've paid, even if it hasn't cleared yet. But yeah, that blasted 'clear' on paypal is ANNOYIN!

I have been using cichlids as dithers and they have been getting destroyed. Convict, texas, jag and finally a dovii that got it's face chewed off.

I second PP's suggestion of black bar silver dollars, Myleus schomburgki, as dithers for a big predator tank. They get big (14 inches) and are tough, but not aggressive.

You may also wish to try redtail brycon, which I believe are either Brycon rubricauda or B. orbignyanus. They get big though (15 inches +) and might end up opening up a can of whoop ass on your other predators.

Yea I would be worried about the brycons as well. I have seen the monster in your tank. Possibly my favorite mix you got going on. I just got off the phone with my girlfriend who works at a LFS and I asked about the black bar but I guess they are too rare for her wholesaler to carry. I just put in an order for Red Hooks because they are only going to cost me 2.75 a piece for medium sized ones.

Will schooling fish school with fish of other types? For example.. will my red hooks school with a group of some type of barb?

Thanks for everyones input.. Oh yea Peanut why do you add a Z to everything you say.. Is that Nebraska slang or just your own.. ex.. Yaz....

Try rainbow fish. They are colorful quick and some can reach a good decent size.
