idea to get rid of snakeheads

i was thinkin of ways to eradicate them and this is what i came up with.

how abt having a month long, on-going fishing tournament for SH?
-no catrh limit
-no size limit
-no tackle limit
-daily winners (person who catches the most that day)
-weekly winners (person who is in the lead at the end of that week)
-over all winner at the end of the month.

weight and/or quantity should determine the winners.

this tournament could be held every month w/ no entry fees and u can join in when ever u want.

so what do u think?

if i was there i would do it. they did that at a like over here for carp. its good bc all the kids would fish for them and had there own compitisions. it will give the kids sopmething fun to do in the summer. especially if the prize is a couple bucks, which they want bc its summer and small discount to places. ya i think its a great idea. :headbang2 :thumbsup:
 
I don't think it would do away with the populations but it would al least help. Yeah, they should do it. The Native Fish Conservancy has exotic tournaments all the time.
 
Actually they should just shock the fish in the area and cull the SH. The use shock treatment for research(fish counts, fish movement) in many lakes and rivers.
 
Personally i think they should leave the snakeheads alone, just so it will show all the angry people that nothing major is going to happen with their water systems, and their "game fish". I seriously doubt that this snakehead sp. is going to screw up anything... Yeah i do agree that people shouldn't release exotic animals into non native habitats but it is already done and over with.. This rediculous complaining isn't going to do anybody any good. You know since their are dogs that people have like pit bulls and rotts attacking and killing people and other animals maybe they should outlaw all dogs no matter of their species all across the united states just because one or two species bit or killed something that is just as fair don't you think, Dogs can breed fast not all have owners,and can wonder around anywhere they want too. Lets start harpooning dogs and shocking them too because their are too many of them and they are taking over..... NOW doesn't this dog statement sound just a stupid as all of the snakehead statements......... :screwy:
 
shoking is a good idea to bc they did that a t a lake here and scooped all the carp out. but it does cost alot i guess
 
Shocking is hard on adult natives, esp. salmonids.
 
they should just leave them alone. most likely they wont survive forever.

or they could stock 1,000 flathead catfish every two miles and let them eat all the snakeheads, and any other fish thay can catch......ya, thats not a good idea, is it?
