Ideal aggressive fish for a 55 gallon tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone!

@JDcowbow:
I just wanted to say that I appreciate you taking the time to look up the fish called "Freddy". You're right, they're a beautiful fish but I don't think it's right to house them in a 55 gallon. As much as I have plans to upgrade to a 75/90 gallon next year, I don't think I want to risk not being able to probably house a fish for life. Between now and next year, a lot of things can happen.

I think I'm going to either go with a grammode, carpintis or a pair of salvini. I'll see if any of those are available at our LFS. If not, I'll see about ordering from one of our MFK Vendors.

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to update you all on what fish I decided on. So after debating between a Salvini, Carpintis and a Grammode, I ended up with a....Paretroplus menarambo. :popcorn:

I know it's not a fish that came up on any suggestions and I hope I don't offend anyone by choosing something that totally came out of nowhere. It's just that while I was looking at Jeff Rapps' stocklist for the Carpintis Vontehillo, I saw a pic of an adult Menarambo and it really caught my eye because it looks like a saltwater fish. So I asked Jeff if I can comfortably house one if a 55 gallon by itself and he said yes. I placed the order on Sunday and got it delivered today. The little guy (or girl) came in nicely packed in a styro box with a heat pack and after about an hour or two of hiding, he's now roaming around the tank and has his face plastered on the glass most of the time. Not sure if he's trying to chase his reflection or saying hi to the neighboring fish tank lol.

Out of 20+ pics I took of him, this is the only one that came out that he's not blurry. He's fast and won't stay still. :nilly:

Since pics are a little hard to get, I just took a video of him going all over the place like a little energizer bunny. :)
