Ideal aggressive fish for a 55 gallon tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that TEXAS cichlid idea is a good one ,,imo:popcorn:

Amphilophus lyonsi or sagittae maybe? Freddie's are nice, but your pushing the limits on tank size as a 75g will be a lot more ideal. RTM's are nasty towards other fish, but most I've seen are shy.

Grammodes grow too painfully slow for most folks.

Convicts are some nasty guys lb for lb

if you take a trip to NJ,you can visit a few good LFS that have grammodes, salvinis, ect. that way your not paying to ship 1 fish, and can pick or M or F with more certainty

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to update you all on what fish I decided on. So after debating between a Salvini, Carpintis and a Grammode, I ended up with a....Paretroplus menarambo.

I know it's not a fish that came up on any suggestions and I hope I don't offend anyone by choosing something that totally came out of nowhere. It's just that while I was looking at Jeff Rapps' stocklist for the Carpintis Vontehillo, I saw a pic of an adult Menarambo and it really caught my eye because it looks like a saltwater fish. So I asked Jeff if I can comfortably house one if a 55 gallon by itself and he said yes. I placed the order on Sunday and got it delivered today. The little guy (or girl) came in nicely packed in a styro box with a heat pack and after about an hour or two of hiding, he's now roaming around the tank and has his face plastered on the glass most of the time. Not sure if he's trying to chase his reflection or saying hi to the neighboring fish tank lol.

Out of 20+ pics I took of him, this is the only one that came out that he's not blurry. He's fast and won't stay still. :nilly:

Since pics are a little hard to get, I just took a video of him going all over the place like a little energizer bunny. :)

He'll eat when he's ready. I wouldn't stress about it too much, unless it's been more than a few weeks.

Really? I know I can skip feeding with adult fish but this little guy is only about 1.5". I haven't seen it eat since I got him yesterday. I never had a fish turn down food before lol. That's why I'm starting to get a little worried. How long can a baby fish safely skip meals without affecting it's health/growth?

He'll probably eat in another day or two then since you got him yesterday. Just let him get used to his surroundings and he'll eat when he's ready.
