I'm planning on getting a jag, but don't want to until I aquire an aquarium he can live in for life. I'm pricing them at Glasscages.com (http://glasscages.com/?sAction=ViewCat&lCatID=2)
just wondering which aquarium would be ideal. Here are the ones i'm considering:

135 Gal.: 72 x 18 x 24 $275 (1296" square)

125 Wide: 72 x 24 x 17 $350 (1728" square)

180 Gal.: 72 x 24 x 25 $550 (1728" square)

Each one has its advantages and disadvantages. I'm thinking the 125W. How important is vertical height when it comes to keeping a managuanse? Is the 135 just the best deal, and I should go for that? Is 8" vertical space on the 180 worth paying $200 more for the same floor space as the 125? I'm not going to use credit, or dip into savings, so I'm saving spare cash for the aquarium. which would you go for?

also, would a Managuanense be compatible with a Friedrichstahlli in any/all of these aquariums, or would they need more space than any of these offer?

Go the 125, or the 180 if you want to keep a Freddy with it. I can't say whether they'd get along at full size in that sized tank but I'd definitely want the extra 65 gallons of volume, even though the footprints the same.
yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. I'm going to save about $50/week for this project, so its only 2 extra months. better to take the time and do it right. if they don't get along at full size, just an excuse to get another tank. That would be a badass jag, taking up 180 to himself.

I would do the 135g, I don't think I would like a large tank thats only 17" high. I have mine in a 72x18x22 and he uses the entire tank.

that's a good point, too. you know what? for the price of a 180, I could get two 135's. I think that's what I'll do. Not positive yet, though. still got time to think about it. A jag and a freddy in the same tank would be pretty cool, if they got along.

its a good idea to get 2 of the 135's
thats what i would do.
then you could stock both with awesome fish!!!
freddy in one tank, and jag in the other

180 and get a few...love jags

I agree. The 17" hieght would be put me off.

i keep my jag in a 75 right now , he's only 10 inches now but i know he'll get bigger still , but if you get the 135g that should be good enof for a jag or 2 to grow to full size and maybe even mate if you have a male an female , or you can go buy 5 baby jags for 3 bucks each and keep the one of two you want and sell or give away the others , but as for the tank shoping try craigslist for great deals , you can get like 1000g tank for $400 if you keep your eye out . as for the freddy im not sure if they'll get alog but i know an oscar will , as long as their about the same size or you start them off as babys together . baby jags are the easiest to keep cuz they dont need as many water changes as many fish do . but good luck with the jags and hope you get yourself a monster in the making.
