I am getting ready to set up a new tank and want to know what type of lighting I should use? I know that P's don't like bright lights, but I'm going to be growing some plants (Amazon Swords) and need a little light.

Also, does lighting provide any health benefits for piranhas? I know that the proper lighting can make them look better but are they actually healthier?

Also, does lighting provide any health benefits for piranhas? YES . I Do not cameo my light I do how ever only run
between 3:30pm and 11:30pm , So 8 Hr a day . I run the lights for my
viewing benefit . """""""BUY A TIMER $15$ At Walmart""""""" .
Plants do great and Piranha do not seem to mind the 8 Hr of sun a day

Thanks for the timer idea. I'll be picking one up for sure.

In what ways does a light help improve a piranhas health? I'm not denying that it does, I'm just curious as to what the benefits are.

I only speculate that it dose . I would not think it to harm them , It naturally
brings vitamins to plants (witch are live) .
My Piranha look/act 100% on pellets and 8 hr of sun :):headbang2
Where you Live in MI ?

I'm going to school in Ann Arbor. Originally, I'm from Grand Rapids.

What kind of light is the best option? I'm thinking since I'm not trying to grow a bunch of plants, I would like to go with something inexpensive.

No I've never been there. I usually go to The Pet Doctor in Ypsi. I'll have to check out this place though.

i have a 24'' t-5 Coralife light over my 20gallon. im growing wysteria and a taiwon lilly very well. its only 28 watts of light. i keep it on from 9am to 9pm.

I think whoever lived in my house used to grow pot in the attic because there are four 4' fluorescent lights up there (each have two bulbs in them). Two small lights would have done the job but instead it's lit up like a Christmas tress.

Would one of these work for my tank?
