I would like to hear your ideas on the best way to raise an arowana out of the yolksack stage. It would be good to compile all the information in this thread and maybe make a sticky out of it as it seems like there's a lot of people getting small aros lately. Here's what I have heard so far and what I still have questions on:

Filtration: Sponge filter
Current: As little as possible
Heating: 2 small heaters w/ heater guards since you really can't risk a heater failure as you will probably lose the aro quickly
Low water level
Small tank

Supplemental aeration?
Temperature: not sure 82F?
Decor?
Substrate or bare bottom?

My setup, although not ideal since I'm using what I have available to me, will be a 20gal long w/ fluval 3+ filter, (2) 150W heaters and a tank divider to keep the current down and keep the fish away from the heaters. The 4 things I listed immediately above this paragraph are the things I'm not sure of. My tapwater is 7.5, so I will probably put some driftwood in to get it lower since they are probably WC or just add some blackwater extract. What would you do for decor, temp, substrate and aeration?

sand would be good for substrate food cant fall into gaps, also airation would be good wouldnt it? Also lots of plants for it to feel more secure and hide in.

i think i would go barebottom but with some small driftwood
giving advice as a kid with an Aro in a ten gallon

A bigger tank with low water level and bare bottom tank setup will be a better method to keep it

ive got mine in a 5.5gal with foam filter, small 10gal heater, incandescent light fixture, gravel in tank, water lettuce, top is covered and keeping heat in...hes doing really well...almost on his 4th week at my house...hes beginning to eat flake food...cant wait for the little monster to absorb the rest of his sack...

i like the substrate for the fact it can have plants and more nitrifying bacteria.

thanks for all the input so far. i think i will go bare-bottom so it will be less intrusive and easier to clean. when it gets a little larger, I will put some sand in there, maybe. i put a piece of driftwood in and I'll probably float a plastic plant. i don't want it to be cluttered as per the reasons i mentioned in the second sentence. I have the 20long about half-full of water and about 1/3 of it divided off for the heaters and filter

what is the ideal temp/pH? 82/6.5-7?

im keeping mine at 86.

I have the temp at 84 right now, so I'll probably keep it there.

Anyone else have any input?

There was a shipping error on my part and we will not see the fish till Tuesday, now.

Dun set the temp too warm for with lesser water in there, heat will exhuast the oxygen in the water real fast. Keep the temp at 28'C will be fine. A flow of aeration is preferred to circulate the water abit in there.
