I know a Mbu needs a min. of 500 gal, but I'm wondering what the ideal tank dimensions would be for a fish that could potentially reach 3'. I would guess wider is better. Maybe 6X4X3?

Larger the footprint the better.

So width is more important than height?

Thank you both for the replies. I'm thinking about building a tank so I can both afford it and have exactly what I want.

Many folks keep them in shallow ponds.

If i ever could afford place large enough to get a big tank for an MBU, personally i would try and hit the 8' X 3.5' X 3.5' or something like that...

Even at 8', a 3' fish hasn't far to swim... :(

Lately I've been considering just settling for some spotted puffers. What's their max size?

~6", 30g minim ea: http://www.**************.com/forum...cus/an-introduction-to-green-spotted-puffers/
