I just cleared up my 180 gallon and wanted to know if i could keep a VATF AND A ARMATUS, and PHANTOM PLECO, please let me know if this is adequate tank space. I was thinking of a sand bottom and lots of cover with plants. Let me know if this is possible, and if you have pics or advice on these sick fish let me know:D

First of, both fish you've mentioned require pure water. So I don't recommend sand bottom and plants.

For Armatus, he's just fine in 180g. VATF is OK if your tank width is more than 25" and blackened all 3 sides.

But if I were you, I'd choose 1 solo Arm or 1 VATF with tankmates. Arm will outgrow VATF and eat it someday (This happened to me with Arm+Tat+Scomb lol). I recommend smaller Tat instead if you still want to do the combo, since my 11" GATF can live with 9" Tat in 350g just fine.

is my tank large enough, to house 1 of the two and a tankmate, like a pike cichlid. alo how big do each fish get in the aquarium hobby

Really, you think a 180 is good for an armatus? Even in the long run?

I would love an armatus, just always thought they needed a bigger tank.

Were is everyone getting these ARMATUS ANYHOW ! ! !

Look at all the Armatus for sale as of late. They outgrow everyone's tank. If you have a standard 180 it's only 2 foot wide.

Armatus NEED a huge tank.... Most won't admit that, but the classifieds say otherwise.

In MY opinion a 180 is allright for a growout but once it gets past a foot the tank will begin to seem small and eventually the fish will become clostrophobic.

Never kept them before but know they are skiddish... I'm sure it would work for a while at least.

Damn now i'm thinking of a small shoal of odoe's, for my 180, becuz i had one for like 4years and it maxed at 12'' than i sold it, but a small shoal maybe 3-5 african pikes, watcha think:headbang2

Ever think maybe it maxed out at 12 inches cause its tank was too small?
