I would say 4-5 no more or no less. My buddy has some and he says you have to have them solo or in schools if you get 2-3 they will fight and kill eachother. My friend got his from Riverwonders.
yo how long ago did he get the pikes, and at what size

have fun picking them off the ground

armatus need a minimum of 8x3x3 tank, VATF need about the same or larger due to their skittishness

thanks three odoes and a bichir:headbang2

What other tank mates are you going to have? If these are going in the 180 you discussed then you'll have plenty of room for multiple bichirs. I'd get a few different kinds. It'll add a really nice and diverse look to the tank.

Btw, I'd make sure both sides are covered as they are excellent at jumping out. Even covered, you're going to need to make sure is pretty secure.

Personally I wouldn't do a armatus in a 180 unless I was planning on putting him in something much bigger later on.

I'm one of few that think longer is better then wider.

I would love to see a armatus in a tank that's 12'x3'x3' they will get over 2' within 3 years if givin the right environment from what i read. And as skittish as they are I would rather give them 12' to run then 4' to turn around in.

I just feel that if the fish can go 12' one or two things will happen. It will either get far enough away and slow down. or it will get enough speed to make it a quick death.
