Ideas for 100g tank

Hasn't been mentioned but have you looked at chocolate cichlids? Similar in a lot of ways. Side note, wouldn't that be a 120 gallon not a 100?

curious, knowing that a Oscar out grow the 55 and looking to move to a proper size tank, (good on you for that) why would you look to over stocking the tank that's perfect for a single Oscar?

Well, I didnt think that two cichlids that grow to 14" max would be overstacking a 120g. But then again I haven't decided on anything just yet. I just that thought 2 in a 4x2x2 tank would be perfect.

Yup. Calculation error. Sorry about that. And I have "never" seen any chocolate cichlids anywhere here (Bangalore). I think they are wonderful fish as well.

Oscars actually can "max out" at 16, even 18 inches though in the hobby I feel we rarely see them push past that 15" mark due to tank and water quality restraints.

again is still 4ft long, Oscars plaster there faces to the front glass most the time, with a 2ft depth can do all kinda of decore in the back with out interfering with his roaming back and forth. and interesting stuff for him to poke around. just my thought on the matter.

Burphy & Pops,

You know, I would love to see an 18" Oscar. And I would love it even more if he was in my tank! So hell yeah! It's gonna be a single Oscar tank. And do I really need a pleco? Not a big fan of them. I would rather not have to deal with their bioload. Not a big fan. I anyways scrub down my glass every week.

For sure don't "need" one but the difference from before and after I removed my old bristle nose pleco was very noticeable. For getting a truest big Oscar water quality is probably the biggest thing; what kind of filteration system are you going to have?

For now I think of having around 4 hanging filters Since each processes 1600L(422G)/hr, I think I should be good. Would also be doing 25% water change per week. This way I can clean one filter per week without losing the beneficial bacteria.
Sounds good?

I like my plecos? I have a 14" in the 180, do I have to vacuum his rope poop up every week, sure. but he keeps my wood glass and rocks cleaned up, fair exchange to me. I keep a 12" in the lutino tank. for same reason. that tank in a window. no back ground and no algea. I do throw him in the jag tank for a few days every 3 weeks or so to clean it up. then back in the lutinoes tank. for bio load not that bad, fish poop is not bio load in the water persay. your biggest bio-load is your fish by way of respiration. they pass ammonia to the water much as we pass carbon dioxide to the air. un eaten rotting food is also a big contributer but no where near as big as the fish itself.

for filters naa. you need to get a canister. and one or 2 AC110 HoB
