ideas for 5 ft tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm also very interested in this thread as I currently have a 5ft tank and want some ideas on what to put in it.

To give the OP some ideas, mine currently has bala shark, tandanus, scat, saratoga, featherfin catfish.
I'm looking to put in a yellow-finned eel-tail catfish and a black salmon-tail catfish.

I wanted to put in an Eel of some sort, but have no idea what type is available in australia and grows to a decent enough size that won't hurt the wallet, maybe someone who knows can let me know?

Thanks in advance.

You could try Longfinned or Shortfinned Eel, both should be available to you and at a reasonable price, probably around $30. They do grow pretty large though, but are interesting to keep.

You know what, just doing a google search and lookin at those pictures, I don't think I will be comfortable handling that LOL!

When it grows to say 60cm or so it will definitely give me quite the fright.

Are there any might I say "prettier" looking eels that get to about 30cm or thereabouts?

If not any, can anybody direct me to or write me a list of what fishes I can get that are available in Australia and grow to a decent size without hurting the wallet....too much ;)

A jardini would be pretty cool. There are various species of spiny eels. I know there are some that get monstrous, maybe there are smaller ones too though.

peacock eels stay fairly small I think.
