The bottom has 3 more shallow parts.. so Its hard to fill with tiles without looking uneven.. But I do not think bare will look good!

Maybe tile and sand?

Any suggestions?

In my opinion, with some rare exceptions, the best substrate will always be natural Sand with a variaty of corn sizes, ideally from a local river. It looks great and the fish feel and will shoe a lot more natural behaviour.

Especially bottom dwelling and digging fish will appreciate it a lot, as it stimulates them way more than the typical same size sand you can buy in every store could. And in combination with a current it will also arrange itself naturally just like in the stream.

Do you think I can spread some clear silicone on the bottom of the tank and then pour some of the sand?

This way the rays would never make a “hole” in the sand and show the “ugly” bottom?

Also suggestions on the grain size for the sand? I am thinking JBL River sand.. its 0.8mm and round grains!

Just don’t want the sand to stick to the rays! I had WIO sand that was 0.1-4mm sand and it was too fine.. So maybe 0.8mm would be nice?
