if u want a big nasty fish thats fairly common and u could pick up at like a petsmart, u should get a jag. super aggressive, big, and mean haha. then with him u could do like a school of 5 or so silver dollars. i think that would be a decent setup. just make sure u dont get small sd's with a big jag cuz that'll be a problem. kinda try and match up the sizes
 
You are young and will only get busier, Go for something hardy and easy to care for with color, i.e get a malawi mbuna tank. Smaller sized fish, mean as hell and a pleasure to watch. Also more forgiving with regards to water params.

Also the decorations, rocks only, can be found for free in and around cities.
 
i have to hold off on the background idea. i have no black paper and when i was moving the tank from the previous location, we got duct tape on the back of it so there are some tape marks i havent gotten off and its to close to the wall to fit my hand behind. ill worry about a background when i move in a year. its a total female dog to take down this tank and clean it, so ill just do it right before i move to louisiana. but i will be working in and on the tank itself, at least the accessable parts and pieces.
 
easy back ground fix hang a black sheet/towel/blanket/ piece of cloth off the wall right off the edge of the tank so that you don't see it anywhere else but threw the tank :D this will also help give you that textured look you wanted :lol:
