Bet that's tough on your lighting
My arowana is scarred to death of red
sounds like torture :(

but OT I got a full hood and he has not got out since
yes, he had gotten out a few times
once when I was not home
the wife is still tramatized over that one

my lights are in the tank so it dosnt effect the lighting or the fish at all

I'm seriously considering painting my lids black and leaving a strip unpainted for the light. Sometimes i wake up in the middle of the night to my aro jumping against the lid

Large tank and they won't jump.

Hi guys
What do you guys use? extra thick glass top?
what if you have let say cannister filters?

I have had youngs ones jump.....I form cut thick insulating foam for the back of the tank.....the hard stuff.....and cut grooves for plumbing and weight both the top and the foam with bricks. 5 bricks total. So far it is escape proof! This is a 55 gallon with a plastic lid....I bought it used and it already was cut out a bit.

 gotta agree

i use a 1/4 thick glass lid but at the edge part i buy those plastic edges that attach to the edge part of the glass.. if the space are too far apart i would cut the same glass at a local glazier to cut you that will allow the glass to touch the tubing of your filters then add those plastic peice at the end and that should do the trick..

I have glass lids on the outer sides and a acrylic sheet for the mid section. Holding it all down is a 6ft Coralife lamp fixture surrounded by 2x4 frame to add extra weight. My aro has already jumped with the fixture over the lids and made a dry landing. Good thing I was home, lol............

I have a custom made plywood cover/hood made for the tank. It looks fantastic but adds another 6 inches to the tank's height.

In any case, my Silver Aro has rarely ever jumped (to escape) in all the months I have had him from 4" to 18".

Last time I remember him jumping was when he was 8" and my cousin who wanted to get rid of his 4" Oscar put the Oscar in my Aro tank. That was the Aro's first ever "tank-mate" (although only for 10 mins).

He, sometimes, does get a bit impatient during feeding and jumps to grab food (shrimp) out of my hand.
