Thanks everyone. Could someone give me a exact stock list for the african cichlids just like ElectricBlueSeanBurch did?

I'd do it but I cant stand africans. The only real benifits to them IMO are the fact you can typically have more fish inthe same tanks compared to CA/SA's
and you can get some really crazy colors (like peacocks ect).

Im not saying CA/SA's arent colorful, For instance look at the EBJD in my avatar pic. There are just more options with africans id say.

That being said I would never own africans because my 220 CA/SA tank is full of big puppy dogs. Every cichlid in my tank his its own personality. When I am on my couch and they can see me they will pile up in the corner of my tank on top of each other and just stare at me. then when I get out my step stool and open it up to feed them the get excited. My wife gets the biggest kick out of that and for the most part she has little to no interest in the hobby. In the end it comes down to what you want.
What are the diminsions of the 120?

Alright thanks. I was just trying to keep my options open but after hearing that, I think I'm going to go with a CA/SA cichlids tank. I was also considering a FW "shark" tank with fish like Red tailed sharks, rose line sharks, apollo sharks, and bala sharks. The dimensions are 48X24X24.

This is my exact experience with CA/SA cichlids all the way down to the wife getting a kick out of it. I have a 120 and have a Red/Gold Severum, Wild Green Severum (my favorite, they look dull in the store but once they settle in the colors are great. He constantly changes colors too), Jack Dempsey, and Clown Loaches....

+1
I used to have a 96gal show tank stocked with all types of africans. It was a beautiful tank to sit back and watch but when it comes to character and fish you can actually enjoy and interact with, IMHO, nothing beats new world type cichlids.
In my 240 I have a Jag, a Trimac, a male Festae, JD, a GT and 2 Oscars. Each and every fish has their own character and are so cool watch.

The yellow's and blue's are africans. You have to pick either africans out new worlds. It's best not to mix them.

I've never had any such issue. I understand the basis of the idea is temp and ph differences but no one really buffers their tanks on here(I don't anymore) as such all my fish are only separated out by temperature and at that there is quite allot of flexibility. Very few fish I've had cared if your tank was 72 or 82. If your water is clean and you feed well they flourish. Fish that care: P-bass, Gibberosa, Compressiceps, cylindricus, G. tile, Discus... that's all the ones I've had that got picky. Assuming temp shifts aren't sudden they will stop eating when not happy, so correct till everyone is eating hardily. Cheers.
