not very good at using paint. but what do you guys think of my idea. my setup 125 gal tank. i have two cupboars under tank, where i can fit a 2ft tank in each. i have been looking at the diy overflows but would like to take water from near bottom of my tank rather than the surface. would the setup in my pic work? the return i will use a pump and ball valve to control it. the overflow pipes i was thinking of using 40mm.

That looks good m8, 40mm pipe drainage would work also. The way u have it in the pic seems ok to me. What are u planning to use for the return btw? Ive just used 22mm hose that works quite well, the 4ft i have runs off 40mm feed and 22mm return all plastic, apart frm 1 hose mod at the end.
Anyway, tank is fixed so how many baffles were u thinking, i can also make u a wet/dry system as a prefilter. I was thinking 1 baffle in 1st tank then another in the 2nd but shorter as you need room for pump. 2 3rds along each tank should be cool with a 1'' baffle on each, a 10l tub above 1st section for the wet/dry.

Used all me txts m8 so gis ring when u got time aye ;)

Make the overflow that connects the two bottom tanks larger than the main overflow on the main tank.... dont make them the same size...

do u mean larger pipes, i was going to use 40mm for overflows and 22mm return. if so why make that over flow bigger

"do u mean larger pipes,"

Me thinks he does...

"if so why make that over flow bigger"

The second overflow looks like it has little fall (mostly horizontal).

Horizontal flow rates are markedly less than vertical ones.
