Ideas on stocking a 125 with my first Bichir

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The ones seen for $40+ are all captive bred. Should be fine as they are all small. I think it'll get around 16-18 inches for a cb teugelsi.

Someone here will chime in on size at some point.

They are more expensive because they're less common. Sens, Ornates, and CB Dels are everywhere so are dirt cheap. Don't look at the price for Mokes. ;)

would 16-18 inches be ok in a 125? With senegals and dels?
Had a 14inch cb with my other polys. No issues in my 125g. Have 6inch senegalus forever with the teugelsi and no probs. There were 9 total. I have since moved it cause of changing stock. Plus I knew someone who wanted it more than I.

I figured they were more rare (even though I can find plenty of them right now) which was the cause for the increased price...but wanted to make sure that was normal. I talked to my buddies over at trinsfish and they said it's easier for them to get polys in the summer for some reason. So maybe this summer I'll pick up a couple of little guys this summer to grow out in my 55 until I get my 125

Good to know. It will probably come down to if I can find one for a decent price. They really are one of the nicer ones I've seen. Really like their patterns

Yep. Well as soon as i've picked out a pair of sajicas in the 55 and move them to the 40, then put my jerk face severum in the 55 I think I'll pick up the sen and del to go in the 55 and grow out for a little while. Hopefully within the next 3 or 4 months I'll be putting them in the 125-180.

You guys have been such a great help. I wish someone would have told me to come over here months ago before I floundered around in the cichlid forum. Now I just need you guys to go find me a tank :)

Teugs are a larger upper jaw but they are not as aggressive. If they don't get too big for your tank (that's what I don't know) they might be a cool option for you.

A wc teug will get big but it is possible that a cb will stay smaller. Mine was growing slow and despite power-feeding itself only got to about 13"... Its a risk you could end up with a big poly
