Ideas?

i plan on redoing my 40 gallon but want a preditory tank. any ideas? it will be a display tank so would like something creepy but yet cool

First things that pop in head, for bottom dwellers would be either a senegal or delhezi polypterus. Maybe a small group of Exodon Tetras, but then I don't think you could put anything else in with them as they like to eat the slimecoat/scales of other fish but they are pretty cool looking

i would like the delhezi polypterus but also want something to bring out the tank like a larger pred? could i keep my convicts with the polypterus?

If you can find one a nice mackeral cichlid would be great, like a Bathybates ferox, Problem is they are seldom imported.

did some research. i like the african butterfly fish and african leaf fish. would it work if so how many and could 2 angels go in the tank with them + 4 convicts.

you convs would slaughter those fish... they are too slow moving

especially 4 cons... you are bound to get a breeding pair...


cons don't go well with poly's either. Too aggressive for them.

ok so rehome convicts then what about the rest angel fish? poly, african butterfly fish and african leaf fish? if not what do i have to rehome?

3 african butterfly fish
1 african leaf fish
3 delhezi polypterus

I say for a preditory fish go for a big male salvini. He would be perfect for your 40 gallon. They hit hard on anything like a large Guapote as they are known to be mini-guapote.
