First things that pop in head, for bottom dwellers would be either a senegal or delhezi polypterus

Bichirs for a 40g? I don't think so. A healthy school of 20-30 exodon would be perfect.

Bathybates ferox? any info? google had nothing.

Hmmm, showed up when I tried but try entering here for all the Bathybates genus members, www.fishbase.org/search.php then type bathybates in the genus search area.

i cant keep Bichirs? ive seen pepole keep them in 20 gallons! awww well dont want to hurt the fishy. but my tank is wide are you sure it wont do? so im guessing i can get african butterfly fish and african leaf fish?

a 13 inch sen???

got any pics of that monster?

No, I used to have him. Died of constipation a couple years back. My new guy is a baby, but he grew from under 2" to 5.5-6" in under 3 months.

Oh, and the butterfly will be absolutely fine. Unless you plan on getting a 55g one day, I would advise against the bichir. And the senegal is the smallest of the bichirs, averaging 12" when grown. Some bichirs like the ornate get over 2'.
