Got this guy from work about a month ago. His colors are starting to pop now but I'm still not sure on the species. We received them labeled as red texas. Anyone know what species this is???sorry for the crappy quality.

Hybrid, no can do.
 
It is what you thought it was... Red Texas, also a hybrid. Depending on how much red it has will determine how much it is worth / nice it will look. It is a cross between a Herichthys Carpintis male and most of the time a blood parrot female with lots of red in her. Female Red Devils / Midas have also been used. It is for sure a Red Texas and it is for sure not a natural fish found in the wild.
