Intro: The local San Antonio river has many wild, introduced fish like Oscars, tilapia, plecos of all kinds and huge, some pacu and many other species including cichlids and Gator gar. I sometimes take my cast net and see what I can catch, and recently caught this big fella. Now at first glance I say Koi...or a golden carp...but I am beginning to think a giant goldfish? I am not sure can someone help me out. It is a beautiful specimen and what do you think of it. Reason for confusion is the fin shapes..Hard to take pics of him but here you go. It has been living in my outdoor pool for over 3 months now and may be a little bigger not sure and doing fine.

its got barbels so its a Koi. or as you called it, "golden carp".

nice find! if you dont keep it, you could sell it for around $100 or more!

post in the pond section and see whats up.

Def koi not worth that much although his edging to his scales has potential

Probably something not able to add to my 220 gallon aquarium huh? Aren't they good in tropical and cold waters?

yes...add it to ur tank...that would be cool. be able to actually see what a koi does.

Already did. Beleive it or not he seems to have established dominance in the aquarium already. It ate 3 nightcrawlers less than 20 minutes after introduction. It very much has the coloring and shape of a feeder goldfish. But Placid (my O-14") seems a little intimidated to see a feeder bigger than he! No issues they all get along great so far. I slept downstairs next to the tank to monitor the compatibility as best as I could. I am doing a 50% water change now and they are getting along great. Will post some pics up later today...:)

Yup, it's a koi. Won't be able to live in that 220g forever so you'll probably have to put it back in your pool or find a new home for it (don't release it back into the wild).

Well here is the updated pics. It lost a couple sporadic scales during transport:( but they will grow back in no time. Prefers nightcrawlers for now... ate 5 today. What do you think? I can only load 4 at a time seems like...
