Thank you. The worst thing about it all is that it will most likely be this way forever. Alot of fish will die due to impulse buying and people not doing their research before taking these monsters into their homes. I was standing in a LFS just last night and it was really busy. I was maybe the 4th or 5th person back to get help. Just listening to some of their customers talk about their fish was comical to say the least. One guy said, and I quote: "Ive kept fish all my life. Ive had this tank up and running for a solid week and all the fish I buy from here keep dying. You guys have terrible fish." I wanted to karate chop that fool in the neck.

Its the same cyclical nature of any popular fish. Same can be said for black rays, datnoids, bichers, things like that...you know the "gotta have" fish. They come and go, prices and demand shifting accordingly. The same can be said for cichla. What's intriguing about cichla is the obvious lack of availability. I think the longevity with these guys lies in the sheer exclusiveness. Human nature compels us to want what we can't have. With only a handful of the ultra rare floating around the states, there are many who want, very few who own.
I see it like earning stripes. Gotta do your time. I havent been in the game very long, but I bet if a guy was stick around and show hes for real and proves hes gonna stay in the game, those elite ultra rare cichla connections may start to open up. I know how I feel about my fish, I wouldnt just pass them off to any yahoo that wanted them. Ide want to send them to a trusted source that I knew was gonna take care of them, and was capable of doing so. Anyone out there who has established Azuls or Intermedia or Kelberi arent going to let them go to someone they dont trust. I know I wouldnt, no matter the price.
Kind of. Its basically a 'who you know' and 'how much you want to pay' deal. At the end of the day, I think money talks and BS walks. HAHA this game is fascinating none the less.

I am basicly telling all the LFS I am close with and do frequent regularly to start cutting back on the P's because when I come in I don't won't to hear about what they did wrong or how could they have done things diffrent! And basicly it comes down to one thing impulse buyer's! Lack of information and dedication are close behind for problem #2. I think once they see how demanding and how fast they demand that you put some real money up the back off after killing 3 or 4 first. It's crazy.
