If convicts breed so fast....

Because, some rules of some LFS state that only wild feeder fish can be used as feeder fish.

I'm in Connecticut. Here all I have seen for sale are goldfish, tuffies, guppies, and the occasional swordtail or ghost shrimp. Im pretty sure none of these are native to CT. So what gives?

Its probably not cost effective to raise them....goldfish grow at a faster rate.

just a guess thou????

The dorsal and anal fins of a convict, when erect can cause slight harm to the predator. Next time you take one out of the water and run your finger along the dorsal fin from tail to head, it isnt hurting yourself, but you dont enjoy it.

:iagree:
If you look closely at feeder goldfish, you'll notice that they have no spines in their dorsal fin- only rays.

convicts are bony and spiny and thats not very good for your fish to eat

Hmmm...that's an interesting question. Maybe raising them is more expensive.

guppies are good feeders i also feed convicts... i feed all my fish fry not anything over 1/2 inch theres no need
