If convicts breed so fast....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yes convicts are only good as feeders up till around 1.25" then they develop those hard spines, before then they are good as anything for feeders.

It is also much easier/cheaper/faster for large breeders to get feeders out of guppies and goldfish. Huge ponds full of guppies can produce LARGE amounts of feeders quickly with almost no food dumped in, most of them live off of plants and insects.

Ide say its also (on top of the spiky fins) because goldfish and guppies are fairly stupid. Convicts are too quick and smart and will generally go straight to the gravel and find somewhere to hide. Its alright if you have a bare bottom tank or without much stuff in it but if you have lots of plants, rocks and logs convicts are hidden within a few seconds. The others just stupidly swim around at the top of the tank basically waiting to be eaten.

Agreed.....plus by the time they are found and eaten they will probably have paired off and bred again....!!

Bad for your fish lolololololololololol, they have spines and dorsal fins are kinda pokey, might cut the inside of you fishes gut and give it internal infection and wallah, you Monster fish is dead.

HAHAHAHAH I KNOW FEEDER FISH ARE NOT SMART AT ALL!!!!

My opinion is it is more efficient to raise a fish that does not need a heater in any wheather than to have huge breeding vats or ponds that are heated ;)

Gold fish can sustain pretty much ice temps and breed like crazy when the temps rise...

I feed my Fish LARGE cichlids as much as possilbe.. Only recently have I cut the first 1" of the dorsal.. And that was cause east coast gold have LONG spines... other than that... I feed allot of Afrian cihlids 2-6" whe they are availabel for free.

ive found the best way to breed feeders is cover the entire bottom of the tank with globs of java moss and some other things of your choice to allow fry good cover a 55 gallon is enough to get a colony of gupp's goin once a month transfer all the adults over to a similiar set up and tada you have a ziliion feeders hiding down in your moss... after the feeders are gone clean out the bottom and get ready for the next transfer
