If Green Terror has hump, is he...???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A lot of GT's won't have a hump. Only some males get them, and out of those a very select few will have a large hump. If the GT is a nice fish, $30 is fare. GT's come in all different genetic quality. For instance... Wild caught specimen generally look the best when they grow up. Most will remain vibrant. Petsmart GT's start to break down physically after a few months. Far east imports are usually hormone induced. Typically they are blue with a red tail, but they will lose their colors and won't be as vibrant. when larger

Reallybigfish - I saw your beautiful GT in 1 of your thread, and that was the very first time I saw a GT with hump, that is why I am wondering if GT with hump is rare or not. Do you have him with another female GT or other tank mates, and notice any change of his hump size ?(decrease/increase?)

I saw the GT's he is referring to.. The store had about 12 or so and several of them had nice humps. If I had the room or tank for them I would have definatly bought a few.

Best GT's I've seen in real life. If I ever get rid of my RD I'll definatly get some GT's.

30 bucks is not that bad. I have seen them for more. Try to post some pics of your GT.

I think GTs are awesome. A hump means it is probably male. (I've never seen a female GT w/ one anyway)

Not worth $30 though, you could get a nice adult for that price, and they grow slooooooooooooow.

I would'nt say all GT's grow slow from what I've have seen. Mine went from 3" to almost 7" in about four months. He might slow down now but he hit the 7" mark pretty quick.

In my case at least, that's absolutely not true. :)

There were only 8 left when I first saw them, I wished I could have seen how the others look. I asked the gal at the lfs to hold 1 for me, she said it was $30, and when I tried to pick him up yesterday, another gal (she is the manager) said he is $45 because he has a nice hump. I looked at the GT for 30 minutes, couldn't resist myself not getting him, so I got him in my tank now. The rest of the GTs are marked $35, and only 1 has a tiny hump, but is clamp-fins. Did I got ripped off??!!
